  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups (270g) old-fashioned rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1 cup (150g) raisins, chocolate chips, or chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Cream Butter & Sugars:

    • In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with a mixer for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients:

    • Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Combine:

    • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing on low until just combined.
    • Stir in oats and your choice of add-ins (raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts).
  6. Scoop & Bake:

    • Scoop dough by the tablespoon (about 1.5 tbsp) and roll into balls.
    • Place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
    • Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are soft.
    • Do not overbake — they firm up as they cool.
  7. Cool & Store:

    • Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
    • Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months.

  3. Customizable: Add raisins, chocolate, or nuts for variety.
  4. Freezer-Friendly: Dough or baked cookies freeze well.
  5. Kid-Friendly & Family-Approved: A classic favorite.

Cons:

  1. High in Sugar (10g per cookie): Not ideal for diabetics or low-sugar diets.
  2. Low in Protein: Only 2g per cookie — not a filling snack alone.
  3. Contains Saturated Fat (3.5g): From butter — best in moderation.
  4. Gluten & Dairy Present: Not suitable for gluten-sensitive or lactose-intolerant individuals.
  5. May Spread if Butter is Too Soft: Chilling dough helps prevent this.
